Day 8: Burns Lake - Vanderhoof 146km
After a warm night in the cabin, the cold wasn't too bad in the morning. At least it was dry. Soon enough we were on our way again. We had to bike 146k, to Vanderhoof. We biked the first 16km with Mike, who has the same pace as us. He doesn't like biking in a line-up though, because of the risk of a group crash, and hence, he let us go ahead after Burns Lake. We would play bike tag the rest of the day though. We biked along a few beautiful lakes (the area is called the Lake District) and through a lot of forest. Although beautiful scenery, it didn't change much (for 2 days) so in a way, it was simply about making a lot of kilometers. So that's what we did. We biked up and down hills, sometimes over flats, and made good time because of the tailwind. We arrived at lunch at 10am already, and only stopped for 15 minutes because it was still too cold to sit still. I wasn't in the best mood ever this day, wondering why we had thought it to be a good idea to bike for more than 1000km on the same highway. A quick coke stop at 106km helped and the last 40km were relatively easy because of the tailwind. Vanderhoof is a small town with not a lot of things to see expect from the regular chains you find in this area (Canadian tire, Pizza Hut, Tim Hortons, etc.). We biked to camp for our regular routine: put up tent, take a shower, take a nap, have dinner, read and sleep. This sounds a little depressing, but as I mentioned, I wasn't in the best spirits that day so I did also find it a little depressing. Fortunately, I made some phone calls and talking to Kai cheered me up. After mom watched him for a week in Vancouver, he is now with Ryan, his grandmother and great grandmother in Seattle and they are having an awesome time. Seeing him so happy makes it less difficult to be away for such a long time.

Day 9: Vanderhoof - Prince George 100km
On day 9, we would only have to bike 100km and we would arrive in Prince George, where we would stay in a hotel during our first rest day. Because of this prospect, I was in a great mood when I got up. Dad wanted to try to watch Max Verstappen in the Formula 1 and therefore we continued our mileage mode, and biked like machines for the next four hours. We only stopped briefly for lunch and for a bear that was having lunch on the side of the road.

Prince George is situated in a valley so the last few kilometers we made a fantastic speedy descent and arrived at the hotel at 11:30am. Unfortunately, Max Verstappen had already quit the race by then due to technical issues. But by arriving so early, we almost had two rest days. We immediately did all chores (laundry and bike cleaning) and dad and I went for a really nice dinner with the two of us. Then I slept for 9 hours in an actual bed and realized how wonderful it is to sleep in a bed.
