Day 6: Ksan - Tyhee Lake 90km
Another beautiful day on the bike! Although it looked like it would be raining pretty heavily right when we left, we only got a brief shower in the morning, and dried up in a few minutes. We left the campsite crossing the same bridge we used to get to Ksan. This time I walked, which was much more challenging due to my bike shoes. But I managed to take a picture. As soon as we have internet (probably not until Prince George) I'll upload them. The first 64km until lunch we rode on a windy hilly road, climbing and descending all the time, while various mountains and eventually a glacier appeared in front of us. A couple of km before lunch, a biker came from the other direction, and crossed the road to pull us over. He seemed to have been expecting us, and asked us whether we were the riders crossing Canada coast to coast. He rode 7k with us to lunch and we discovered that he was Dutch, still spoke a few words in Dutch, and that he was training for another ride across Canada (White Rock to Halifax) leaving in two weeks. We ran into another biker, (his friend, also Dutch) and at lunch time, we brought two new friends along. They stayed a while as they seemed more interested in chatting than in biking. We left rather quickly though, because there was quite some rain expected, starting in the afternoon.
Only 25k after lunch, and hence, we had time to make a quick stop in Smithers, a small town with a charming Mainstreet. Upon arrival in Telkwa (tiny place next to our campground) we tried to find an Inn or motel because the rainfall that is predicted is about 35-40mm and tomorrow is one of the longest days of the section. The Inn was closed and I couldn't reach the manager, and the motel was fully booked. Therefore, we climbed the hill to the campsite, right on a beautiful lake and put up our tents. We are all set so let it rain! (It just started).
